I've gone under the hood and redone almost all of the internals of this site. Specifically, I'm now using
GeoDjango -- a geographic web framework I developed, inspired by my initial experiences creating Houston Crime Maps. In addition, the
PostGIS spatial database is now used on the backend with
OpenLayers drawing the maps in the browser. Other new features include visualizations courtesy of
Google Charts (including historical charts of crime for a particular region), month pages, year summaries, and violent/non-violent crime breakdowns.
I've (finally) updated the database with crimes from January & February. Enjoy the new features and stats, and be safe!
